The water levels in the Mosquito Lagoon and Indian River are extremely high right now which is making for some excellent fishing along the shorelines! Redfish, trout, black drum, and snook can be caught right now on artificial lures as well as bait. Jigs and soft plastics have been working great for all species, but first thing in the morning it's hard to beat throwing topwater for the first hour or so! For those who like using bait we have been having great success using cut pinfish or mullet fished on the bottom in areas holding schools of mullet. We've had plenty of 15-20 fish days using bait the last few weeks, and Tom Brayman and his wife caught 31 redfish with me last Thursday! The bite is on!!

We have had a great Summer Bite for Redfish, Trout, Black Drum, and even a few Tarpon, and now is the time to fish our spawning Redfish! These Reds can exceed 40 lbs and can be caught on a variety of artificial lures including topwater, swim baits, gold spoons, and live baits. Redfish schools are roaming the deeper edges of flats targeting the schools of mullet throughout the morning and topwater plugs are a top choice. Large Speckled Trout can be found in these same areas and again topwater baits work very well. The best baits for large Black Drum are live shrimp or live blue crabs fished with a weight on the bottom. Book your trip today for some of the best fishing of the year!
