Light Tackle Fishing

One of the many unique things about the Mosquito Lagoon is it's lack of structure (to break off fish) along it's expansive grass flats. This makes for some long and exciting runs by shallow water gamefish on light tackle. Top of the line spinning gear is provided for you at no extra charge, as well as artificial baits, plugs, and live bait for all species of fish you will encounter. Fell free to bring your own gear if you want also. If you would like to break in a favorite combo, your light tackle outfit should be spooled with new 8 or 10 pound line with a 20 pound fluorocarbon leader tied on to it. New line and good knots are a must! Our tackle is up to the challenge. Is yours?

Fly Fishing

Mosquito Lagoon's crystal clear grass flats and large concentrations of redfish offer some of the best fly fishing opportunities found anywhere in the world. Feeding redfish are often found in water so shallow that their backs are exposed. Presenting a fly to a targeted fish, watching the take, and hearing the fly line tear across the flat is something only a fly enthusiast can appreciate. If you enjoy the hunt as well as the catch, you're in the right place. Mosquito Lagoon is a fly fishing enthusiast's home away from home.

All skill levels are welcome. If needed, Capt. Jon will patiently instruct beginning fly fisherman in search of taking their first Mosquito Lagoon redfish on fly. That is truly one of the greatest rewards to Capt. Jon.

Redington fly rods with Fin Nor reels are provided as well as flies for your targeted species. If you should decide to bring your own equipment, an 8 or 9 weight rod is perfect for any fishing situation you will encounter. Practice your "double haul" cast. You will get shots at fish normally 60 feet away. Sometimes less, but be prepared to make accurate casts.
